The Usual Suspects

The Usual Suspects (1995)

Five low-lifes are dragged in for an unusual line-up in New York: Stephen Baldwin, Gabriel Byrne, Benicio Del Toro, Kevin Pollak, and Kevin Spacey. The narrator, Kevin Spacey, is a limping con man who leads the viewer through an explosion, the discovery of drug money and dead bodies on a boat, more violence, a determined police investigation seeking a terrifying criminal mastermind, and more violence. Directed by Bryan Singer, this film was a bit too violent for me, but is worth seeing for the plot twists, the wonderful interplay between the suspects and the police, and the magnificent acting.

A 1998 documentary on the DVD, The Making of the Usual Suspects, delineates some of the difficulties in making the movie. (It was turned down by more than 130 different production companies).
